An introduction to the STIHL TSa230 Cut-Off Saw, the first battery powered professional cut-off saw on the UK market. This machine has a 75mm (3”) cut and the capability of a petrol machine for cutting paving slabs, roof tiles and concrete pipes, without the considerations of noise and exhaust from a petrol engine machine. The module looks at the safe use of the machine, differences in the use of battery over petrol and the performance of the battery and charging technology

An introduction to the STIHL TS440 Petrol Driven Cut-Off Saw. Fitted with an inertia brake, this machine has advantages that the blade guard can be adjusted back to a greater degree enabling the operator to cut down closer to the ground and make positioning better for cutting pipes and structures where assess can be restricted by the blade guard.

Basic ½ Day COS Course includes:
  • Understanding the law – A look into the law including Health and Safety at work, Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health

  • What PPE and why we wear it – The PPE required to be worn when using a cut-off Saw, the standards, options and helping operators to use it.

  • Checking your machine before you use it – Checks on selecting the right machine, condition, functions and safety elements before using it

  • Selecting and fitting the correct diamond blade of abrasive wheel – Similar to the Abrasive Wheel Certificate but focusing around the specific requirements of the cut-off saw

  • Fuelling your machine – Ensuring the safe refuelling of the machine, how and where to carry out refuelling

  • The correct starting procedure – How to cold, warm and hot start a Petrol Driven Cut-Off Saw

  • How to position yourself – Techniques for the operator in the safe use of the machines

  • Cutting safely – Securing and stabilising the material being cut.

  • Help from accessory manufacturers – What accessories are available, how to use them and how they help in the use of the saws

  • Things to avoid – What is bad practice and how to avoid unsafe use

  • Carrying and transporting your machines – Thigs to do and not to do when moving the machines around the site and from site to site

COS Certificate – training for anyone over the age of 18 in the use of the cut-off saw with successful delegates will receive a 3 year certificate identifying they have been trained in the use of cut-off saws to an accredited standard

 

COS Assessed Training – assessment on site for anyone over the age of 18 in the use of the cut-off saw as a means of acceptance from the site management of competence for that contractor.
